We aim at reducing chemical impact of pesticides, our approach seeks to care for and nourish the soil because soil is a living substrate and our responsibility is to make a long-term and sustainable use of it.

Increasingly
organic products

We have been implementing the use of organic products for some years now to allow the plants to grow strong, spreading quality compost on soil, as well as boil, organic acids through worm compost and mineral salts to dissolve the nutrients the plant needs along its different growing stages. 

Cover
crops

As part o four practices we have implemented cover crops that are plants capable of nourishing the soil and minimizing the emergence of weed. These cover crops are capable of tying up excess nitrogen in the soil and, once the growing cycle is completed, these spaces shall be reserved to grow sugarcane and use the nutrients tied up in the soil.

Carbon Footprint.
Our strategies to fix carbon in the soil include some actions such as green harvesting, Integral Farming Design, use of organic compost and use of micro-organisms and biologic nutrients.

Water Footprint
We drive a timely irrigation strategy through remote sensing and smart farming practices and in industry we implement water recovery in production processes, as well as water consumption monitoring per process.

Digital and smart farming

In the sugar agribusiness we are the only ones to drive variety development concurrently with Centro Guatemalteco de Investigación y Capacitación de la Caña de Azucar –Cengicaña. We are the only company in Guatemala and Central America featuring a seedling production plant and we produce near 80 million seedlings a year, which means we achieve 55% of the renewals.

Drones

We feature two types of drones:
The farming drones for foliar spraying of nutrients and non-herbicide products.This type of unmanned aerial vehicle allows us to reach all regions of our operation. Crop monitoring drones generate high definition images allowing more informed decision making and timely action planning to improve our interventions and to achieve the goals set by the company.

The model of smart farming we have adopted offers us possibilities of varied rate fertilization and at the same time the possibility of creating technological prototypes that lead us to automate more and more our farming work. We were able to establish data networks and geodesic control panels, topography, planimetry and altimetry, which facilitates decision making in real time.

IA
(NDVI)

We use climate-smart farming models to define production estimates, using radars, machine learning and that, by means of artificial intelligence, generate patterns and use crop indexes through satellite images and radar in order to prepare sugarcane yield predictions.

Operation
excellence

We set up an Operation Center that has information, in real time, of cutting, lifting, transport operations and other production works to allow traceability and optimize our intervention times. In only a few months, this project managed to consolidate information that is extremely useful for data-driven decision making.
